Environmental Strategies: Indentifying and Utilizing the Community Norms, Access/Availability, Media and Policies (C.A.M.P.) Approach

Program Description:

This two-day workshop will focus on effective environmental prevention strategies that requires a number of supportive activities from other strategy classifications, such as education, information dissemination and community-based processes.  Accordingly, it can sometimes be difficult for community planners and prevention practitioners to accurately determine whether—and which of—their prevention activities are truly environmental in nature.  Environmental theory has identified three key focus areas of environmental prevention that provides a useful framework for determining whether a course of action constitutes an environmental approach.  Under this framework, environmental strategies constitute a comprehensive, population-focused course of action intended to reduce problems and consequences by:

  • Changing population-level norms,
  • Reducing availability of substances and opportunities to engage in negative behaviors, and
  • Passing and enforcing laws, policies and practices.
  • Media campaigns

Objectives:

  • Overview of Environmental Strategies and C.A.M.P. model
  • Provide in depth and experiential instruction of C.A.M.P.
  • Review/Discuss the Logic Model and how it is utilized
  • Review/Discuss the Theory of Change and how it is utilized
  • Indentify resources and tools to be used in each of the four (4) key areas
  • Identify and develop Action planning activities for the areas identified
  • Present Action Plans of the Areas Identified
